on the heels that senator reid may be said we are going over the fiscal cliff. stocks now every 15 minutes. the "wall street journal" out with some retailers to watch in 2013. nicole: let's start off with harry reid's comments that we may go over the fiscal cliff. as a result, we are seeing a lot of down arrows. there is a market that started off in the green and then read. that is the action that we are seeing. getting to the retailers, there are a lot of retailers that have had a lot of headlines and in many cases have been struggling. jcpenney would be one of them. down nearly 5% on the day. they have been a big loser. you had ron johnson come over from apple. the "wall street journal" talked about a few retailers. four of them, to be exact. including best buy. that would be another one. radioshack. and also sears. these are the four names we have been watching very closely. a lot of these names are significantly lower. do or die in 2013 for those names. liz: thank you so much. president obama landing in washington just moments ago. cutting his vacation in hawaii sure to tackle the fisc

proposal from republicans, well, pretty much, we're headed towards the fiscal cliff and going over. there has to be movement towards a middle ground, and as the meeting started, there was no. we are awaiting reports on what happened. they met for an hour and five minutes. could have been progress towards another type of workable frame work to maybe kick this into next year, but as of the start of this meeting, it was not looking good. the white house will be updating ceos at 5:30, a staff call, staff from white house calling a number of ceos, having a conference call to update them. lloyd blankfein of goldman sachs on the call, trying to confirm other members of the call. thinks moving quickly, but not much progress. david: if there had been any kind of conclusion or any kind of agreement between republicans and democrats as we're looking at pictures -- that was nancy pelosi moments ago, if there was an agreement, there probably would have been an announcement, come out to the gaggle of reporters saying they are happy, and there was none of that announcing going on today; correct?

are now on the senate when it returns on thursday to try to get a deal to avoid the fiscal cliff. this past friday before the president left for his family vacation in hawaii, he proposed a limited measure to avoid all of the cliff when speaker boehner scuttled his plan b, the president wants to extend the bush tax cuts now for the middle class and try to avoid some of these deep spending cuts on january 1st. a white house spokesperson says today that staff discussions continue between the administration and the hill. in july you may recall the senate democrats passed an extension of the middle class tax cuts if r a year at a -- for a year at a cost of 157 billion. that bill also patched the alternative minimum tax for 2012 for 92 billion, but it went nowhere after that. senate republican leader mcconnell is critical to hammering out a deal because he can filibuster any legislation, but his spokesperson says this morning quote, nothing new to report. we don't know yet what senator reid plans to bring to the senate for a vote. >> when i listen to the president, i think the preside

're not the fiscal cliff deal. and then they walk off the house floor between 6 and 6:30 p.m. now, this is an acknowledgment that they haven't gotten any type of deal for the senate. the senate is very much the first the act here, so we're still waiting on a deal between the white house and republican leaders. then the senate would vote, and it would go over to the house. this is somewhat of an acknowledgment that there has been no action from the senate yet, and it's not on the calendar tonight, and very likely we are going to go past that midnight deadline without having a deal pass the house and the senate and go to the president's desk for signature. but still everyone in the house is waiting on folks in the senate to act, and it's all stuck by these spending cuts that the white house and senate republicans continue to argue about. but it appears as though at this point we're going to make it past midnight and probably won't have something past both houses of congress meaning technically, we will likely head over that fiscal cliff. liz: do you need us to order o you pizza, ric
